On Friday evening and Saturday, November 10 and 11, 2006, Rudolf Steiner College will host a workshop called "Behind the Label: A Positive Approach to Social and Emotional Issues in Childhood" with Kim Payne, M.Ed., experienced counselor, adult educator, author, and consultant to many Waldorf schools.
Ingun Schneider writes:
Kim's 20 years of professional experience include counseling children, adolescents, and families; teaching movement to children and adults; and researching non-drug approaches to Attention Related Disorders. He is well-known for his guidance and instruction in overcoming anti-social behaviors, including bullying, in schools and homes. He authored the book Games Children Play and is working on two new books: Simplicity Parenting and The Soul of Discipline.
In "BEHIND the LABEL: A Positive Approach to Social and Emotional Issues in Childhood," Kim will help us look at what's behind the more and more common diagnoses of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional/Defiance Disorder, Non-Verbal Learning Disorder/Asperger’s, Dissociative Behaviors, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
What is the difference between naming and labeling? In the flow of our everyday teaching and parenting, what do we need to understand how to respond to these diagnoses? As we look deeper into the issues that confront our children we may glimpse how, in helping them penetrate the difficulties that face them each day, they are gathering and refining the tools they need to make themselves stronger in will, deeper in empathy and clearer in achieving their goals.
Please let the teachers, parents, and professionals in your school community know about this workshop which is part of the inauguration of the eighth cycle of the Remedial Education Program, a three-year part-time training program at Rudolf Steiner College.
Please share the enclosed flier, and feel free to contact Rudolf Steiner College as indicated on the flier with any questions.
With all respect for your important work,
Ingun Schneider, PT
